Yet another successful V i n y l N i g h t. As usual a great time had by all, looking forward to a full house for the next one, but thanks for all who came.

Tried for a more mellow atmosphere last night, with a pretty soft mix from the 70's. The following is what we played:

Elton John, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (new pressing)

Only listened to side one of disk one, mainly for Victoria so she could hear 'Bennie and the Jets'. Didn't matter, she went upstairs to watch Hannah Montana. Still, Elton impressed all with the live rendition of 'Bennie", even if it was a little bass shy.

An old one from my sisters collection, one that managed not to melt when it was up at my parents place sitting beside the old Franklin stove. Played both sides, enjoyed immensely. It's an album I had not listened to in years, and then shunned when Mr. Joel came out with his MOR 90's albums. Glad we revisited this one.

From Ceri's brother stash (which he foolishly gave away to me). Had no idea what this would be like, turned out to be a perfect fit, and set the tone for the rest of the night. Vinyl looked to be in rough shape, but the Pro-Ject cut through the dirt and it sounded very good. A nice album. It's great when something unknown worjs so well.

Always a big fan of the Dan. Again, perfect fit for the evening. Played both sides, album was in great shape.

If anything didn't belong, it was this one. This will be the night I learned that the earlier the Styx album, the harder it is. Will need to listen to all the Styx we have one night to figure out what goes with what.

Works with just about any crowd. Almost timeless music.

Thought I'd end it with a splash of 80's. Not the more esoteric 80's that comprises a large part of my collection, but some forgotten mainstream. it worked.

As usual, a great night.

Cheers
